About

a woom project

WOOM (founded 2006) exists in order to promote visionary art by new and emerging artists. Always striving to source original work created from pure and authentic creative impulses, manifested in any medium. Currently based on an Island off the South coast of England, WOOM previously operated out of a disused shop and factory (pictured) in Birmingham’s (UK) Jewellery Quarter, and held exhibitions and numerous live music events. WOOM’s first show - ‘Darling, they’ve found the body’, featured installations by KatieJane Garside (of punk-rock bands Daisy Chainsaw and Queen Adreena) - and Ruby Throat (KatieJane’s current musical project) made  their live debut in WOOM’s courtyard later that year.

‘Booby Hatch’ featuring New York artists Sarah Bareza and Alison Brady, and ‘Gambling, Gods and LSD’ featuring the film of the same name - were a few of the exhibitions held at WOOM’s Birmingham gallery in 2008. Gigs held in 2008 included Mr Bones and The Dreamers, Carina Round, Ali Powers, Telegramme and The Traps.

Syd Woom is the bod responsible for WOOM, and in 2009 he relocated to the Isle of Wight, where he now lives and works.

www.woom.co.uk showcases emerging artists from all around the world.
